Curious George Birthday

We celebrated Caleb's first birthday party with a Curious George theme. It made total sense. First of all, we had a small collection of Curious George items (pails, tins, lunch boxes, etc.) from J's growing up years. Second of all, big sister loves him. Thirdly, Caleb loves bananas. Fourth, red and yellow are two of Caleb's favorite colors. Fifth, Jonathan has always secretly desired to dress as the man with the yellow hat. And finally, Caleb's middle name is George.

Or in all honestly I just picked the theme because I thought it would be fun. And because while I was reading Caleb a bedtime story a month ago, he said, "mom, I'd like a Curious George themed party". He's really quite advanced verbally.

Okay, joking aside. Here are the birthday decorations. I (mostly) had a lot of fun making the dangling streamers and signs. They may have taken the place of time/effort/energy spent making the cake (a friend of a friend made it - amazing, right?!). If you recall Clara's first birthday, you may remember the cake shenanigans.

First birthdays basically consist of two things: eating cake and opening gifts. Oh yes, and adults and little kids playing while the birthday boy/girl watches and wonders what in the world is happening. All of these events went well. First, the cake...
Would you like a bite, Ella?
Pure excitement
He may not have stuck his face in the cake,
but he kept right on eating it until I
finally took it away from him :)
And then the gift opening...
He had some onlookers
And a personal present opening assistant (aka big sis)
Add in there a few other random moments, and I'd say it was a successful day.
Loving the balloons (and his pal Andrew)
Posing with Grammy & The Picks
Picnic for the kids in the living room
As we've said before, we are so incredibly blessed to have this little man as a part of our lives. We love you, Curious Caleb George. Happy FIRST Birthday! This may just be the biggest and best birthday you'll get for a loooooonng time :).
