3rd Annual Marmot March

The Marmot March (or one mile race the Saturday before Bloomsday) always falls on Clara's birthday weekend. It makes for a busy couple of days. But Clara has enjoyed it so much each year, we knew we wanted to make it a tradition.

The day of the race couldn't have been more beautiful. And Clara was very excited to don her tutu and fairy wings.
All looked lovely and wonderful and fun until the race began. About 1/8 of the way in, however, the tides changed. A certain just turned four year old girl stopped running and said she was too tired. Which makes total sense because she had run for about 16 seconds. The remaining 7/8 of the race we were having to bribe her with the cookie at the end in order to even walk without melting down. I'm pretty sure she crossed the line with the just barely walking one and a half year olds. It was pretty awesome.

We think what happened is that she thought she was going to win the race (she had been talking about beating everyone for a few days prior), and when she started getting passed by everyone, she just gave up. At least we are hoping this was the case because it's the only mildly acceptable explanation. ;)

So we have a ways to go with this little lady. She doesn't have to love running races like her mama and daddy, but she needs a teensy weensy more stamina.

Here are a few more pictures to document, nonetheless. We sure love her despite ;).
